About Yates & Co Jewelers In 1989 Ron and Mechelle Yates opened their retail store, California Coin & Jewelry in Modesto, CA. The store bought and sold fine jewelry and rare coins from private individuals, estates and others. The vast majority of the pre-owned (we call it pre-loved) jewelry that was purchased from the public was resold to jewelry wholesalers and other local retailers. After several years, the focus of the business was changed to service the needs of our growing customer base. Instead of selling our estate jewelry primarily to other jewelry stores we now offered the savings on the fine jewelry and diamonds to our own customers first. The name was changed to Yates & Co Jewelers, Inc.
